Newborn & Child Photography - Creating NEW memories

Origins of School Photography
Indeed, school photography has an interesting history that many might not be aware of. It began with companies hiring mothers to capture the essence of school life through photographs. Here’s a closer look at how this practice evolved:
Initial Concept
Companies recognized the potential for capturing childhood memories.
They sought individuals who understood children, leading to the hiring of mothers.
Training and Instructions
Mothers received strict training on photography techniques.
They were instructed on how to engage with children to get the best expressions.
Guidelines were provided on framing and lighting to ensure high-quality portraits.
Capturing Memories
The focus was on taking numerous portraits to document school years.
These photographs became cherished memorabilia for families.
This unique approach not only provided jobs for mothers but also created lasting memories for students and their families, establishing a tradition that continues today.
Today, not much has truly changed. Many individuals involved in school photography often do it part-time and may have entirely different careers away from this (although this is not the case for all). School photography tends to be generic, classic, and lacks originality. To truly capture your child's personality, a studio portrait is an excellent choice. Schools cannot accommodate the time and effort required to allow each child the time it takes to enjoy their time in front of the camera.
I have a great affection for children! At weddings or other events, I naturally gravitate towards the younger ones, appreciating their personalities and straightforward honesty. Regardless of your child's age, I bring extensive experience in working with individuals of all ages and needs. My career, which has included roles in the NHS, Education Sector, Care Sector, and Charity work, has exposed me to a wide range of situations involving people.
Collaborating with my life and business partner at Ben Cumming Photography, we offer the opportunity for clients to visit Woodroyd Studios in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire, at their convenience. With over 20 years of experience in studio and wedding photography, Ben has gained international acclaim for his work, treating photography as both a craft and an art form. Our studio provides a welcoming, friendly, and calm environment, ensuring there is no pressure to do anything uncomfortable. We encourage everyone to share any creative ideas they might have.
The result is always a beloved set of captured memories.
The greatest part about all of this? It's not restricted to a single event. Babies and children are invited to come back to our studio whenever they reach a new milestone or wish to commemorate a special occasion. Memories are timeless, just like my newborn and child photography.
Newborn Photography - Safety
It is essential for parents to ensure that their newborn photographers are knowledgeable, not only with the camera but, more importantly, with handling your baby. I have undergone specialized training with highly skilled newborn photographers, which has provided me with the expertise to handle your baby safely. My priority is to keep them as calm as possible and only pose them in positions they are comfortable with.
Therefore, I never promise specific poses.
